Milwaukee Sculptor Brandon Minga Plans to Bring an Artful Expression to Bayshore

In 16 years of creating, Wisconsin artist Brandon Minga has experimented with more mediums than some artists touch in a lifetime. He’s painted. He’s crafted mixed-media murals. He’s made logos and sculptures. Perhaps most importantly, Minga created all of the graphics -- from production through print and installation -- for America’s Black Holocaust Museum in Milwaukee. All of these projects have something in common: Minga wants to thrill, engage, and connect with you.

While Minga’s work has appeared throughout the world, he’s a loyal hometown guy. He lives and creates in Milwaukee, where he owns and operates a small ad agency and manages the House of RAD, a collective of artists and designers. Minga graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and frequently mentors artists via special classes. His drive to help students doesn’t stop there.

For the 50th anniversary of Milwaukee’s popular Summerfest, Minga and aspiring artists came together for a special live painting. You read that right: students actually got to paint alongside an experienced creator at one of the city’s premier festivals. And even though he usually works alone, Minga clearly loves being a part of a team, striving to create something special together. That’s why the Bayshore project was such a great fit.

“I’m part of a large collection of artists, and that’s special,” he says. “To be a part of a team like this is really unique.”

Minga was tasked with creating a sculpture that would be located at The Yard at Bayshore - a large open green space where visitors come for live entertainment, sports watching parties, movie nights, fitness programs, and all sorts of pop up events.

“I wanted the piece to be lightweight & airy, transparent yet bold, empowering yet elegant,” he says. “I wanted to create something that represented music, dance, and individual expression. I can't wait for visitors to see what we are creating.”

The iconic sculpture is scheduled to be installed at Bayshore in Spring of 2021.
